Frogs, Snails, and Little Fishie Tails

We went fishing last night. Unfortunately, we didn't even get one bite. . . but, we found a way to have fun anyway. Wesley took the little minnow net and caught 5 snails, a water scorpion, some dirt and mud, a bunch of little baby fishies, and tried to catch baby froggies and dragonflies. I still wonder who was having more fun. . . Wesley or Erick. Wesley kept having to beg Erick for his net back and Erick ended up with more mud and dirt on him than Wesley. What do you think?

Quotes of the Week

More and more things keep coming out of Wesley's mouth that just make us laugh.

1. I was teasing Wesley trying to get him to put his underwear on by telling him that I thought he was too big for it and that it would fit me. He kept grinning and saying "No, Mom, you're too big." Finally, he said "If you eat just a little bit, you'll get smaller and can wear it." If only it were that easy.

2. We were coming home from fishing and passed by the road that we usually turn on to go to our house. Wesley said "This isn't the way to our house." We told him no. He then commented "Yeah, we're going on a road trip." Now, where has he ever heard that before? We couldn't figure that out.

3. We were traveling in the car and Wesley was being goofy doing knock knock jokes and being just plain silly. He said "Mom, say Daddy." I said Daddy. He then said "Mom, say Mommy." I said Mommy. I was kind of distracted and was really only paying a little bit of attention to him and what he was saying, but I was complying to his silliness. He then said "Mom, say Mommy too." I said Mommy too. He then said "Mom, say Mommy tooted." Not really thinking about it, I said Mommy tooted. He just started giggling and said "Mommy tooted. Ha-ha-ha-ha. Did you like my joke?" and just kept on giggling and laughing. I had to laugh too, he definitely got me on this one.

and, lastly the best one of all. . .

4. "I want to have a little brother or sister." I don't have a reply for that one. :)

Little Pig, Little Pig......

OK, everyone has heard the story of The 3 Little Pigs. Well, Wesley has his own versions.

Version 1

Big Bad Wolf - Chinny Chin Chin. . . Let me in!

Pig - No. I'm not letting you in.

Big Bad Wolf - I'll huff and huff and huff and huff and huff and huff and blow your house in.

We tried to teach him how it actually went and this was Version 2.

Big Bad Wolf - Pig let me in.

Pig - Not by the chair on my hair.

Big Bad Wolf - I'll huff and huff and huff and huff and huff and huff and blow your house in.

Either way is cute, but Erick and I love Version 1 of Chinny Chin Chin. . . Let me in.

The Potty Chart

We had been at our wit's end for the past 6 months trying to figure out how to get Wesley potty trained at home. He would go all day at daycare and never have an accident. We would pick him up in the same pull-up as the one we dropped him off in. It would never fail that almost immediately on our trip back home he would go the bathroom in his pull-up. He would go in his pull-ups at home and it was a chore to even get him to try and sit on the potty. So, I came up with "Wesley's Potty Chart" a couple weeks ago. I don't know what took me so long to figure this out, but it has been wonderful. For every time Wesley goes to the potty on the big boy potty he gets 1 sticker to put on the chart. If he fills up the entire column with stickers he gets to choose a special treat. This has been wonderful, because not only does he look forward to getting a sticker every time he goes potty, but he really looks forward to the special treat that he gets when he fills the column up. The funny part is that he knows how many stickers he needs to finish filling up his column. He'll realize that he is only 1 or 2 away, so he'll run to the bathroom and go just a little bit and then go back in 10 minutes and go a little bit more. So far, he has chosen to get green and chocolate ice cream as a treat, m&m's, little chocolate cakes, and Diego big boy underwear. (Can you tell he is my son with all the chocolate treats he is requesting?) He has been doing this for about 2 weeks and has only had a couple of accidents. He even made it today wearing a regular pair of underwear. He and Erick went to the library and Erick said that Wesley took his hand and said "Come with me Daddy." Wesley led him to the bathroom, but they had to wait about 10 minutes to be able to use it. Wesley made it and didn't have any accidents. I'm so proud of him. Finally. . . maybe he will be fully potty trained soon. Keep your fingers crossed.
