He knows more than we realize
I get amazed everyday at what Wesley has picked up and knows that we didn't teach him, but he just saw us do it or has done it so many times he knows it now.
- We were in the living room playing and Wesley's pants were falling off of him. I casually told him "You need to pull up your pants Wesley." I was just saying it, not thinking he knew what I was saying. The next thing I know, he looks down, puts one hand on each leg, and pulls his pants up. I was shocked!
- Wesley has this talking robot toy that looks like a laptop and you can play word games, letter games, songs, etc. on it. (One of our yard sale finds for $1) He was pushing buttons and listening to the music, and then pushed the on/off button. The robot said "See you later." The next thing we know, Wesley was waving at the robot and saying "Bye bye". Now, everytime he turns it off, this is his ritual.
- Wesley knows how to blow his nose. In all the months that we have had to suction, spray, wipe, and get the boogers out of his nose, I guess Wesley picked up how to blow his nose. One day, he picked up a tissue, held it to his nose, and blew (all by himself). Erick and I just sat there in amazement asking the other "Did you teach him that?" Neither of us had, so we just figured he must have learned it at daycare. Nope, daycare didn't teach him that either. He has actually gotten pretty good at it, and we are thankful that he does it. It makes it so much easier when he gets a cold, we just have to ask him to blow now and he will. The only problem with it is that he relates his nose to blowing his nose. When we go through the body parts and ask him where his nose is, he thinks he has to blow his nose. The problem with this is that he doesn't have a tissue, he just blows. I don't know how old kids are when they normally blow their noses alone, but I remember being graded on blowing my nose in kindergarten. It was actually on my report card. I guess I'll give him an A- for it, he'll get an A+ when he uses a tissue everytime and I don't have to clean up snot off his shirt or my shirt or the couch. :)
