Wesley's "Purse"

Wesley and I were shopping in Wal-Mart a few weeks ago and Wesley saw this froggie material that he really liked. I told him that I would make something out of it for him (in my mind I am thinking of something square for I can only sew square things). So, I finally decided to make him a book bag that he could carry his books, toys, crayons, etc. in. He saw it and called it his "purse" and had to immediately go and get my purse to carry too. He put it on his shoulder and told Erick and I both bye and continued to walk to the door with his "purse" as if he was going somewhere. I am not a professional sewer by any means, I wouldn't even consider myself an amateur sewer. I guess I would call myself a hobby sewer. I don't follow patterns, I make everything up in my head. . . and, usually, as I said before, it is square. I'm not good at remembering how to thread the sewing machine or put thread on the bobbin (that is what Erick is for. . . although I do try but just never remember from one time to the next how to do it). Poor Erick was trying to do some work in the basement when I was working on this and had to come upstairs 3 times to help me fix the sewing machine. I have fun doing it and if you ever receive anything sewed by me, please don't expect it to be perfect. It is the thought that counts, right? Anyway, I wanted to show off Wesley's "purse" that I made him.

I'm so proud of myself, it even has 2 straps. :)

. . . and a pocket with his initial on it. Look how straight I sewed those lines around the pocket. You would think I had been sewing for years. :)

. . . it even has a liner
(but don't look at the hemline on the inside,
that will contradict the above comment about sewing my lines straight)

What matters is that smile on his face and the fact that I got a HUGE grin when I gave it to him. He seemed to like it and even started to use it.

So, now he can organize his things when we go somewhere and be proud of his froggie "purse".

I think you are way above a 'hobby' sewer if your are able to put a liner in a bag. That's hard stuff! I love the look of the finished product.
